QNRF announces research grants
The Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has announced the launch of the 5th cycle of its flagship international research funding initiative, the National Priorities Research Programme (NPRP).
The NPRP offers grants of up to $350,000 a year for projects that span from one to three years. The largest funding activity of QNRF supports original, competitively selected research. The NPRP has already invested more than $345mn in 411 projects to date involving 134 collaborative institutions from around the world. The fund is open to both Qatari and non-Qatari citizens, located inside or outside Qatar and accepts proposals from all disciplines.
Applicants can start submitting their Letter of Intent (LoI) online from noon, Doha time, today and should ensure that their applications are in compliance with the requirements listed in the NPRP 5th cycle Request for Proposal (RFP) which is available for download from www.qnrf.org.
For the launch of NPRP’s 5th cycle, QNRF will be holding three public presentations in Qatar, as well as broadcasting two webinars, especially timed for the convenience of applicants in North America and south east Asia, outlining the major changes and enhancements made in the new cycle and illustrating the applicable policies and guidelines.
The public presentations in Qatar are on September 18 (10am to 11.30am, Education City, Student Centre); September 22 (10am to 11.30am, Qatar University, College of Engineering, Women’s Campus); and September 25 (11.30am to 1pm, Hamad Medical Corporation, Hajar Auditorium.
The webinars will be streamed on the Internet on September 30 (8pm, Doha time) and October 1 (10am, Doha time).
A panel of QNRF experts will host the webinars, which will take the form of an online presentation illustrating the application process, followed by a comprehensive Q&A session.
Driven by the aim to foster a culture of research in Qatar, the QNRF was established in 2006 by Qatar Foundation to advance knowledge and education by acting as a support system for researchers. QNRF administers funding for original, competitively selected research and furthers collaborations within academia through effective, mutually beneficial partnerships. While QNRF actively seeks internationally recognised researchers, it is dedicated to funding research that meets the needs of Qatar.
