Objective
This activity is one of several means to connect Qatar to the international research community, raise its visibility, and offer additional mentors to students in Qatar.
Description
The QNRF will seek to attract internationally known researchers and distinguished individuals in the physical, life, and social sciences; engineering; the arts; and humanities to reside in Qatar for a period of several months up to a year, and share their expertise and talent with the Qatar community.
Responsiveness to Challenges
One of the challenges to the QNRF raised in the preceding section is geographic separation. This activity provides another avenue for overcoming the barrier of relative isolation from the international research community.
Potential Benefits
The presence of distinguished individuals unaffiliated with Qatar University or the Education City institutions will add an additional source of intellectual enrichment for students, faculty, and other researchers in Qatar. These individuals also will have the potential to mentor and inspire students to advance their studies and possibly pursue a career in research. At the same time, distinguished fellows will increase Qatar's international visibility in selected areas of research and in the arts and humanities. Visibility may come through publications as well as short courses and workshops.
